Child Protection Training Video, Test and Other Requirements

Sponsor's Handbook (may be downloaded at bottom of page)

This Child Protection Training is MANDATORY for all adults over the age of 18 who will be coming to camp.

This page has everything you need to conduct your CPT training for your sponsors.

Child Protection Training (CPT) Course Approval Number YC06-000

As of June 1, 2006 state law requires every adult who will be in direct contact with minors at a state-licensed camp must successfully complete a training to recognize and prevent child abuse & molestation.

This training includes a written test and is approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services. This law is in addition to the criminal background check and sex offender background check your church is already required to conduct on any adult who will be accompanying children to camp.

In order to help your church meet this new requirement the Camp Managers of the Texas Baptist Camping Association have written a training curriculum that was approved by the Department of State Health Services on April 18, 2006.

The curriculum provides our churches with a statewide uniform course that complies with the new mandated requirements.

Each adult attending camp with children must complete a one hour training which addresses the following topics: the definitions and effects of sexual abuse and child molestation; the typical patterns of behavior and methods of operation of child molesters and sex offenders that put children at risk; the warning signs and symptoms associated with sexual abuse or child molestation; the recommended procedures by youth camps to address, prevent, and report suspected sexual abuse or child molestation; ways adults can avoid putting themselves at risk for an accusation of sexual misconduct.

The test administered at the conclusion of the training consists of 25 questions and addresses the topics described in the training.

This curriculum is available for use, free to your church. The online content includes the training manual, online video, exam and a certificate of completion.  Please contact Heather, 940-855-4182 or, for the answer key.  The training text and video are designed for anyone to easily present to a group of adults. A DVD version of this Child Protection Training video is also available. Contact us for more information about obtaining the DVD version.

This training and certification of completion is mandatory for all adults and MUST be completed BEFORE attending campThe certificates of completion, background screening and adult registration forms must be presented upon arrival to camp at registration.

Every adult who attends camp during the summer must take Child Protection Training Course.

In addition to the child protection training, every adult attending camp must also have a criminal background check and sex offender background check. Here are a couple of links to sites that can assist you with that.
